Things to consider before selecting a contractor or roofing system.

1. Which roof system is right for me?

The center of a successful project is the specifications. Specifications tailored to your specific requirements. Our goal is to help you select the best technology for your specific application based upon the criteria that was determined through the preliminary information gathering processes. Each and every property is unique. No two buildings have the same exact needs. A good plan begins with knowledge and a clear understanding of all the objectives with making an informed decision. Customizing a roofing system that is tailored to meet those needs is a key element in a successful roofing project.

2. How should I select the right contractor?

  • A good contractor will have the ability to install multiple types of roof systems. They can provide you with the information to select the best roofing solution to fit your specific needs.
  • Years in business. Deal with companies that have a long term track record, you don’t want them learning on your project.
  • Be sure that the contractor has the financial strength to perform your project. The right contractor should be able to provide letters of credit from suppliers and banks if required.
  • Be sure the contractor has a safety plan in place for your project. Each and every project has unique characteristics. A well laid out plan for your project will protect the contractors employees, your employees, your customers and your property.
  • Ask for references. Not only the good ones with no problems to present, but the ones with problems. All contractors will have leaks from time to time. What separates the good contractors from the bad is how they service the client after the sale. This will give you a good way to measure a company’s commitment to the client.
  • Properly equipped to do the job. A good contractor will have all the necessary tools and equipment necessary to install the roofing system along with safety equipment. With advancements in today’s emerging technologies and changes in their application, this is a very important part. Especially when considering thermoplastic welded assemblies.

3. Which warranty is right for me?

There are many different types of warranty’s available. These warranties come with different levels of coverage along with different terms in years. In addition, you will want to look at the exclusions to the warranties along with the requirements to kept the warranties valid. Good contractors can assist you in your selection process by educating the buyer what makes sense to fit within their facility’s needs and budget.

4. Does the company provide sufficient details and support documentation for the project?

The contractor should be able to clearly explain how they plan to perform the work and outline the quality control guidelines to ensure the assembly is installed to specifications. This plan should include a thorough inspection procedure. In addition, the specifications should comply with local ordinances.

5. What are other key considerations to selecting a new roof?

With energy costs and concerns on the rise, many clients are looking for solutions that will reduce energy consumption. This can be provided in various ways. Increasing the R value of the roof system and the reflectivity of the roof surface to mention a few. There are many roofing products available today that meet the environmental demands by the ENERGY STAR® council. Many energy providers are offering discounts to those that participate in ENERGY STAR® rated assembly’s. The EPA’s “Cool Roofs” program is designed to reduce cooling costs and the impact of global warming on our planet. Other considerations could be Chemical Contamination, Puncture resistance from foot traffic and or weather phenomenon such as hail impact, climate design criteria such as wind uplift ratings, green roof technology and warranty duration.
